how to stick to a vegan diet

how to stick to a vegan diet

this is john kohler with okraw.com today wehave another exciting episode for ya and we're withdr.doug graham, the author of the 80 10 10 book and we're just gonna ask him onesimple question today you know i know on youtube there's a lot ofvideos about eighty ten ten or what people think 80-10-10 isso with that i want to ask dr. graham just one simple questiondoug, what's the different between an 80-10-10 guide andthe 30 bad diet or one of the diets that are being promoted assomething similar to 80 1010 it's a great question it's a great questionand

i think a lot of people focus on one aspectof the book or a particular side of it that works for themputting their own filters on it are trying to put their own spin on it i'mthrilled there's anybody even interested in 80 1010 to be quite honest i'm thrilled anybody's interested in 80 10 10and if they shift it this way or they shift it that way and they wanna call ittheir own thing that's fine i'm not thrilled when they stillcreate something new and then still call it 80 10 10 because that's not really a80 10 10 is... is not just the caloro-nutrient ratio of80 precent carb 10 percent protein 10 percent

fatalthough you could look at it that way and say well"that's all it is 80 10 10 is a chloro nutrient ratio"but i just spent the time to create an entire bookso that people would understand that there are basic principles that go behind that andif i was going to make it as simple as a human we couldi would still stick with - completely stick with - my six qualifyingadjectives which are whole, fresh ripe, raw, organic, plantsor whole, fresh, organic, ripe, raw, fruits and vegetableswe have a few extra words plants will do the

job for me and i don't compromiseon my whole, raw, ripe, organic, plants, all of those categoriesincluding fresh, all six parameters wanna be there or you're compromisingthe concept of 80 10 10 - you can get 80 10 10values by using a little bit a protein from a can of proteinand some sugar from a bag of sugar and a touch of oil from a bottle of oil.and you can have a little mix of something horriblethat's 80 10 10 but it's not nutritious - its isolated, fragmented, refined, distilled - anyway you want to say it. the nutrients have been separated from thecalories

which is a real problem. when we separatenutrients from calories you end up with empty calorieswhich is exactly what 10 80 80 is is against if it was to say it was again somethingit's the opposite of that is by using whole foods, fresh foods, ripe foods, raw foods, we're attempting to maximizenutrient uptake along with the calories that we consume. we're not justlooking for the calories or we could use refined sugar, refined protein, and refined fat. these are all empty calorie sources and idon't endorse that in any way any more than i endorse empty nutrient sourceswhich are nutrients that have been separated

from their caloriessuch as vitamin a supplements or iron supplements or any of the othersupplement kind of foods. these are - these -the concept is empty calories has been out for a long timethe concept of empty nutrients is one that i've introducedbecause i want people to understand that either way, empty isn't what we want - we wantfully loaded, completely packed whole foods. and if you getting yournutrients from whole foods it's a completely different story. it's onethat i was thrilled to see t colin campbell write anentire

book on whole foods. and he and i see verymuch eye to eye , we talk often but i was really thrilled to see himput so much emphasis on one word to write an entire bookcalled whole and it's just brilliant to see how thatand of course he ties in many other ways using - using the environmentand other ethical, other ethical issues to seewhat's really going on in the word "whole" but just in terms of eighty 1010 it's notsimply caloro-nutrient ratio it's about sleep, it's about exercise, it'sabout all of the health creating factorsand by the time you refine food down, even

if it's something simpleeven if it's just refined - i dunno - coconut sugar or whatever it might be or bythe time we start adding stimulants such as saltin order to justify our use of complex carbohydrates that have to be cookedi'm not saying that i come out against other people doing their thing; i'm thrilledother people are doing their thingfor a lot of reasons but i don't wanna then call it80 10 10 raw vegan if it's mostly vegan most the time or mostly rawsome of the time - i've been through those cycles ibeen through experiences trying to do that

i've been playing around withraw food since 1978 and i've made a lot of the mistakes so longago that i don't even talk about them very often to people because i want totalk about the successes. i wanna talk about the roads that are gonnaget you where you're trying to go and i truly say that for most peopleif they're attempting to learn how to succeed on 80 10 10they need to give themselves eight to ten years, 7 to 10 yearsand if you've only been doing the program for three, four, five, six yearsand you think you already know how to really succeedi find a lot of people stumble off of the

dietand then as human beings can - human beings can rationalizeanything! its easy to justify using coffee when you'rereally, really sleep deprived; it's easy to justifyusing refined sugar if you're not getting enoughfrom fresh fruit. if you start eating starches sugars start looking really good.i'm not picking on anybody - i'm thrilled thatpeople are interested in experimenting - in wanting to look and see if we canmake improvements even on 80 10 10 and maybe someday somebody will makeimprovements on 80 10 10.

but i don't think so because we've got thesports science behind it, we've got the noetic science behind it, we'vegot the health science behind it we have the medical people behind it -pretty much every angle that i can pursue has been supportive oflow-fat, raw vegan diet meet up with whole, fresh, ripe, raw, organic, plants that's 80 10 10 along with the lifestyle parametersthat make for a healthy individual - there's no way to be healthy if you're not active, there's just no way. there's no way to being well nourished if you're notactive. there's no way to be healthy if you're notsufficiently well slept, there's no way to

be healthyif you don't get some human touch, there's no way to be healthy withoutfriends, there's no way to be healthy - you can have a modicum of health if you reallywant to fire on all cylinders you got to include all the aspects of healthand as soon as you start comprimising on any of them, you start compromising onall of them so i just i mean sounds like a broken record80 10 10 all fresh, ripe, raw, organic, fruits and vegetablesas soon as you stray from the in anyway shape or formit is not 80 10 10 and you're not going to get the results tof 80 10 10there's just no way to get a hundred percent

outunless you get 100 percent in. wow doug, thank you for summing that up imean i know you have over 30 years experience doing this and you know, your really smart and intelligent. i've been, y'know, following what you say for manyyears now and what you do it works i mean it simplyworks and i wish i could sum this up for my viewers you know likehow simple you did but, you know, in a few videos you're not going to learnreally about what eighty 1010 is what you really need to do is buy doug's book80 10 10. doug how can somebody buy your book doug, really get thei nformation to know what it is

and try it and they could find out for themselveswhether it works or not and i believe it will. well the 80 10 10 dietis available on my website foodnsport.com its ten lettersthe word food the letter "n" and the word sport. foodnsport.com theycan go there and order we can go on amazon and order you can get at it anypublic library in the united states just request it and they will order it foryou and you can read it for free it's now available in seven languages andwe're working on 24 other languages, the book is in demand obviouslyi'm thrilled that it is, i'm honored that it is.it's a simple concept whole, fresh, ripe,

organic fruits and vegetablesyou gotta live healthfully if you expect to have health happeni don't know how much 80 1010 will benefit youbecause we haven't found out yet. my sports performance is still improving itshould have started declining twenty years ago according to the professionals.my brain power is still really clear um, i don't know when or if decline is ever- i don't know how much benefit i used to sayoh you're gonna gain 10 or 15 or 20 yearsbut now we're i'm already passed the 20-year point ofstill showing athletic improvement when i

should have started declining ages agoi don't know what we're actually giving people but it's something very specialand its it's not because fruits and vegetables are so cool.it's because anything else brings you down. if it isn't whole, fresh, ripe, organic, fruitsand vegetables its bringing you down its compromising yourhealth you gonna pay the price for the rest your lifethere's always going to be a price to pay there's going to be a bit of suffering andand increase or repeatification of the aging factorsand and there's no way to undo it so the reason we went to raw foods is becauseraw foods work better than

cooked foods. the reason we use whole foodsis because whole foods work better than refined foods reason we usefresh ripe raw organic plants because they work betterthan any other option and sure we all want everything else to work in that there shouldn'tbe a price and there's not going to be - there's not goingto be the results that we don't want to have happenbut in fact there's always consequences the clock is always runningand you're either building your health or you're destroying it.wow, that - that was really simple i mean once again it's just like the message i sayat

the at theend of every one of my videos "eat your fresh fruits and vegetables", i meanthat's simply it - it's not that hard and i know you guys could do it. be sure to getout to food letter and sport dot com get dogs butyou can learn all about it
